Share a chat or a file

Send anyone a 90-day link to a chat or a file, or share a file with people as a viewer or an editor. Your memory and instructions never go with it.

You can share an AI Integrator chat or file with a link that lasts 90 days, or share a file with people as viewers or editors. A link shows a copy of the chat or file as it was when you shared it, and your memory, instructions and private files never go with it.

Two ways to share
A 90-day link holds a copy made when you shared it. Adding people shares the file itself, with every later change.
  • Share
  • 90-day link. A copy as it was
  • Add people. The file as it is now
  • Chats. Read, continue, branch
  • Files and artifacts. View, download, copy
  • Viewer. Reads every change
  • Editor. Edits with you
  • Share to 90-day link
  • Share to Add people
  • 90-day link to Chats
  • 90-day link to Files and artifacts
  • Add people to Viewer
  • Add people to Editor

How do I share a chat?

Choose Share in the chat's header, on the web, the desktop app or iPhone, and copy the link. Anyone with the link can read the conversation without an account. The sheet has three switches, all off by default:

  • Include attachments adds the files you attached. Without it, each one reads "An attachment wasn't shared." This one needs Pro or Max.
  • Show my name puts your name on the page.
  • Show title in previews lets a messaging app show the chat's title when someone pastes the link. Without it, the preview says only "Shared chat."

A chat has one link. Sharing it again opens the same link, and Update link copies the chat again with your newer messages, keeping the address and restarting the 90 days. Temporary chats, an Agent's Home and a chat whose reply is still writing cannot be shared.

What does a shared chat include?

The link holds a copy of the conversation's current path from the first message to the last. Other branches stay out, and later messages are added only when you choose Update link.

The copy keeps the words, charts, interactive pages, web citations, generated pictures, artifact cards and the names of the steps a model took. It drops the model's reasoning and what each tool read or returned. Your memory, account instructions and project instructions are never stored in messages, so they cannot be part of it. An artifact in the chat opens only if it has its own link or the reader already has access to it.

What can someone do with a shared chat?

They can read it, and with an account they can continue it. Reply to continue this chat sits under the conversation. Sending makes a new chat in their own account with your messages copied into it, and their reply goes there. A reader who is signed out is asked to sign in first, and their reply waits on their device until they are back.

The new chat is theirs. It runs on their plan with their own memory and plugins, and deleting your link or your chat does not touch it. Because the first messages came from you, their AI treats them as written by someone else: it does not save facts from them to their memory, and it asks before changing anything, such as editing a file or running a plugin action, for the whole chat.

How do I share a file?

Choose Share on a document, spreadsheet, presentation, upload or artifact in Files. You can add people by email as viewers or editors, and they see the file as it is now, including every later change. Editors work in it with you, and each saved change reaches everyone who has it open. Files shared with you are listed under Shared with me.

Sharing a slide deck: a teammate added as an editor, the file's link opened to anyone signed in, and a 90-day link copied.

The file also has its own link. It is restricted by default, and you can open it to anyone signed in, as a viewer or an editor. For a snapshot instead, Copy link has Copy 90-day link, which makes a copy of the file as it is at that moment, for anyone with the link. Sharing files and making copies are part of Files, which comes with Pro and Max. A free account can still open and edit files that others share with it.

A shared artifact can show official data, such as government statistics, to everyone who opens it. A page someone else made reads your own connected plugins only after you choose Allow, and on a link page it waits under a Show button before it runs at all. Introducing artifacts explains how pages read data.

A link works for anyone who has it, so share it only with people you mean to. Beyond that, it is kept out of sight:

  • Search engines, web archives and AI crawlers are turned away from link pages, so a link never appears in search results.
  • Link pages load no analytics, and the address is not sent to other sites when someone clicks away.
  • The address is long and random, so it cannot be guessed.
  • Every link page has Report. Reported links are reviewed and can be taken down.

A link lasts 90 days. It ends sooner if you choose Delete link or delete the chat or file it points to. Settings lists every link you have made, under Account, then Shared links, with its expiry and Delete. You can keep 20 links at once on Free, 200 on Pro and 1,000 on Max.

Can I share a Code chat?

Not yet. AI Integrator Code keeps its chats on your computer, so the account has no copy to share. Artifacts you open in Code are saved in Files and can be shared from there.
