Start a chat#

Click New chat to open an empty conversation with an Ask anything prompt and a Message… field. The sidebar has Search chats, Projects, and your recent chats, followed by Agents, Scheduled Tasks, Skills & Plugins, and Images. Files is in the account menu.

A new chat is untitled until Chat names it from the conversation. To rename, pin, archive, or delete a chat, use its menu in the sidebar.

Choose a model and options#

The model chip next to the composer sets the model and how much it reasons. Advanced has Provider, Model, Intelligence, Agent, and two privacy switches: Zero data retention only and No training only. A model that doesn’t meet a switch stays in the list with the reason, so you can see what the switch filters out. Fast appears only when the model and your plan offer a faster route, and it may use your allowance at a different rate.

Agent applies to a new chat and can’t be changed after the first message. You can still change the model during the conversation when the picker allows it. If you haven’t created an Agent, the row shows Create your first Agent. New creates one without leaving the composer.

A project adds its instructions, files, and project memory. An Agent adds its profile. Memory adds saved facts or text from earlier chats when those settings are on. See Projects, Agents, Memory, and Files.

Send a message#

Press Enter to send and Shift+Enter to start a new line. If you turned off Enter to send in Account settings, press Ctrl+Enter or Cmd+Enter to send, and Enter starts a new line. To stop a reply while it’s generating, click Stop.

A reply can show which model answered, a reasoning section, a Searching row, and links to sources. If you ask for a comparison or a series, the reply can include a chart you can resize, save, or click. See Charts.

Edit, branch, or read aloud#

You can copy, edit and resend, or delete your own messages. You can copy, edit, delete, or read aloud a reply, or branch it into a new chat. Regenerate is available on the latest reply. Chat asks you to confirm before it deletes a message, and deleting a message also deletes every message after it.

The plus button in the composer shows Attach (coming soon) and isn’t available yet. To use a document in a chat, upload it to Files. To give several chats the same documents, add them to a project.
