Find a chat#

Search chats is at the top of the sidebar. In the desktop app, it’s also in the Edit menu, or you can press Ctrl+K or Cmd+K. On iPhone, open the drawer and tap Search chats and messages. Results update as you type. Click a result to open the chat.

Search matches the titles of chats that aren’t archived. The desktop app also searches chats already loaded in the sidebar while your account results load. Searching for a project name or a title you remember works better than searching for a sentence from the conversation. Archived chats are in Settings → Archives.

If nothing matches, Search suggests trying different words. A result opens as a regular chat, with the usual message actions.

Web sources#

When a model searches the web, the chat shows Searching while it works, then links to sources on the reply. Those links go to web pages, not to your chats.

Search and memory#

Chat History Memory can add text from an earlier chat to a new reply. It doesn’t add full-text search to the sidebar, and turning it off doesn’t delete any chats. Wipe in Settings → Memory clears only that index.

To find related work quickly, keep it in a project and search for the project name. To keep a fact you can correct later, use Memory.
