Scheduled tasks
Run a chat prompt once or on a repeating cadence, then review the destination and run history.
Choose a destination
Chat schedules run in the account-backed Chat service. Code schedules run on a selected desktop and use its repository, runtime, permission ceiling, and availability. A schedule in one destination does not automatically run in the other. Mobile exposes the destinations available to the account and paired hosts. See Scheduled Code tasks for local scheduling.
The steps below describe Chat schedules. Agent routines are schedules associated with a shared agent profile.
Create a scheduled task
Scheduled Tasks is a destination in the Chat sidebar. New task opens a form with Name and What should it do? The optional Enhance action can turn a plain-language request into a clearer title, prompt, and cadence. A task can run once or repeat every number of Minutes, Hours, or Days. Run at or First run uses the account’s local time zone.
The Destination section keeps chat schedules in Chat · Cloud. Continue in can use This task’s chat or an existing chat, and a new task can be placed in a selected Project. Provider, Model, and Reasoning can inherit the account default or be chosen for the task. Create saves the schedule; Edit scheduled task opens the same fields for an existing item.
Keep later runs connected
Repeating tasks continue in the same chat and keep a sliding window of recent messages. Build on previous runs carries one short note into the next prompt. Note for next run adds optional handoff context, such as a verified finding or the next question to check. The detail view shows the task prompt, status, next run, destination, and Runs history; Open chat returns to a linked conversation when one exists.
The task list can filter by host, search scheduled-task titles, prompts, destinations, and models, and refresh its results. A task can be paused and later resumed, run immediately with Run now, edited, or cancelled. A running task shows its current state; a failed or interrupted run can show Needs attention and an error in the detail view. No scheduled tasks shows when the filtered list is empty.
Scheduled tasks start future turns in the selected destination. The chat transcript remains the place to inspect the resulting answer, while the task detail keeps cadence and run history together. Agents has a separate Routines view for schedules bound to a particular agent, and Projects explains the project context available to a chat task.
