Types of scheduled tasks#

Scheduled Tasks in the Chat sidebar lists your account’s scheduled tasks. Code schedules are different: they run on a computer and in a project you choose, and you create them in the desktop app. See Code schedules.

An Agent routine is a Chat schedule that always posts in that Agent’s home conversation. You can create one from Scheduled Tasks or from Routines on the Agent’s profile.

Create a scheduled task#

1. Click New task.
2. Enter a Name, and describe the task in What should it do?. Enhance can turn a rough sentence into a title, a prompt, and a schedule, which you can then edit.
3. Choose Once or Repeat. For Repeat, enter a number of Minutes, Hours, or Days. Run at and First run use your account’s time zone.
4. In Runs on, choose Code, Chat, or Agents. Agents appears only if you have at least one Agent.

Each destination works differently:

• Chat — continues in This task’s chat or in an existing chat. A new task can belong to a project. Choose Provider, Model, and Reasoning, or use your account default.
• Agents — continues in the Agent’s home conversation. If the Agent doesn’t have one yet, the first run creates it. The model shows Set by the Agent, so you don’t choose a separate model.
• Code — created in the desktop app. On iPhone, you can see a Code task on a computer you can reach, but you can’t create one.

Build on previous runs passes a short summary of each run to the next. Note for next run is one instruction for the next run, such as a number to check again or a question to answer.

Manage scheduled tasks#

You can search the list by title, prompt, destination, or model. Agent routines are grouped under the Agent’s name and picture. Other tasks are labeled Chat, Code, or Chat & Code. If you don’t have any, the list shows No scheduled tasks.

Open a task to see its prompt, next run, and Runs history. Open chat opens the task’s conversation, if it has one. You can Pause and resume a task, Run now, edit it, or cancel it. A failed run shows Needs attention with the reason.

Results appear in the task’s chat, not on the task page.
